Finding Diversity in the Right Places
In our Fall 2020 Newsletter, we talked broadly about celebrating diversity and the importance of building organizations that are open to new and different approaches to solving problems. Research shows that when teams are more diverse, innovation, collective intelligence, profitability, and long-term valuation rise. We want to follow up by sharing some practical ideas about how we find diversity candidates.
Like many companies, we too are actively working to integrate diversity & inclusion into our work culture, networks, and searches. In 2021, on retained searches led by FlemingMartin, 70% of our placements identified as women and/or people of color and we strive to continue to champion D&I.
There are multiple approaches to improving diversity hiring, and many steps to consider when developing your recruiting strategy. For us, it is critical to proactively reach out to underrepresented candidates. If you rely on luck or inbound communication from potential candidates, you will not be successful in finding outstanding candidates representing different backgrounds. You must consciously target diverse candidates, and one way we do that is by using Boolean searches in internal and external databases. In the spirit of sharing, here are a few Boolean searches that we have created for searching on LinkedIn: FM URM Booleans.
For us, a critical step is proactively reaching out to underrepresented candidates.
We continue to seek innovative and improved ways to find new and diverse candidates, and we would greatly appreciate any ideas or resources that others have found helpful. Feel free to reply to this message with your thoughts and/or any recommended resources. We appreciate your collaboration and partnership, and we look forward to sharing more ideas and resources in a future Newsletter.
Sincerely,
The FlemingMartin Team
